It is no secret that we live in extremely polarizing times, with hot-button political issues weaving their way into the fabric of every aspect of our lives and culture. Amidst all the noise, we all want to make sure our voice is heard. But how often do we stop to listen?<\/span><\/h4>\n

List(e)n (80 minutes) invites people with opposing viewpoints on some of our most divisive issues \u2013 guns, abortion and immigration \u2014 to listen to each other. The documentary features participants whose personal lives deeply intertwine with the topics, including one of the survivors of the Parkland, FL school shooting.<\/h4>\n

As the exchanges unfold, and the participants take the time to get to know each other, moments of unexpected emotional connection and understanding arise.<\/h4>\n

This powerful film is wise to the ways we sometimes hate that which we don’t understand. It is also brave enough to ask: Can we at least try to understand those with whom we most disagree?<\/h4>\n

Juliana Tafur is an Obama Scholar, an Emmy-nominated, award-winning documentary filmmaker and the creator of the Listen Courageously movement and workshop series.<\/p>\n

With extensive experience in the production world, both as content executive for Discovery, and as producer on hundreds of hours for National Geographic, Facebook Watch, A&E, History and others, Juliana’s documentary films use listening to foster human connection and her workshops invite participants in the business sector, K-12 and higher ed institutions and nonprofits, to listen.<\/p>\n

Her work in this space recently led to a TEDx talk titled “Listening Courageously Can Bridge What Divides Us”<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Selected as a leader by the Obama Foundation Scholars Program, Juliana has been in residency at Columbia University’s World Projects 2021-2022, as part of an initiative that brings together practitioners and academics to tackle some of the pressing issues of our time.<\/p>\n
